Back to School and College with T1D

in

Back to School and College season can be an overwhelming time for students living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their parents and caregivers. It requires paperwork, special planning and many conversations with teachers, school nurses and other students about T1D and how it’s managed at school. The good news is that with JDRF’s help, you don’t have to feel overwhelmed. JDRF has put together helpful materials and information to ease this transition. They can be found here and includes information about 504 Plans, building a School Diabetes Emergency kit, the JDRF School Advisory Toolkit and more. T1D can be a lot to handle, but with the right tools and preparation, your child can minimize surprises and help bridge communication between you and your child’s school administration.

We know that moving to college can be overwhelming for students with diabetes, as well as their families. College Diabetes Network has just released the second edition Off to College booklets, full of information for students and parents to help make the transition from home to campus a little easier. Check out a preview of the Student Booklet and the Parent Booklet.
