University of Florida Trials

The University of Florida has several trials happening and they need your help. They are looking for children and adults, please read below for more information.

  1. Lactobacillus johnsonii N6.2 (probiotic) – For children: To determine if this probiotic has a positive impact on digestive health and wellness and preserve insulin production.
    1. Ages 8 to 17
    2. Diagnosed with T1D more than 3 months but less than 1 year
    3. Must be willing to take a probiotic or placebo for 24 weeks
    4. Meet other study eligibility criteria
  1. Lactobacillus johnsonii N6.2 (probiotic) – For adults: To determine if this probiotic has a positive impact on digestive health and wellness and preserve insulin production.
    1. Ages 18 to 45
    2. Diagnosed with T1D for 3 years or less
    3. Must be willing to take a probiotic or placebo for 24 weeks
    4. Meet other study eligibility criteria
  1. PROTECT: the study medication (teplizumab) has been developed to alter the body’s immune response in such a way that protects it from the damage caused by T1D
    1. Ages to 8 to 17
    2. Must be recently diagnosed with T1D (participants must be randomized by week 6 of diagnosis)
    3. Participants will be randomized to receive study medicine or placebo
    4. Meet other study eligibility criteria
  1. SUNRISE: the purpose is to evaluate the safety of the study medication (TOL-3021) and test whether it can stop the immune system from attacking beta cells and help the pancreas make insulin
    1. Ages 18 to 40
    2. Diagnosed with T1D within the last 5 years
    3. Participants will be randomized to study medication or placebo
    4. Meet other study eligibility criteria
