#WhyIRUN – Carol Littler, 2019 TEAM JDRF

in

I’m Carol Littler from Wigan in the United Kingdom (half way between Manchester & Liverpool)

How Many Times have you Run with Team JDRF?
I’ve run 10 marathons now for JDRF (7 London’s, 2 Manchester’s and 1 New York City). I’ve also done Great North Run, Royal Parks Half, The Big Half, 2 Manchester Halves and 2 Liverpool Halves (including Rock & Roll) all for JDRF – well over £20,000 raised to date. Not bad considering I only bought my first trainers 8 years ago when I was 42. I turned 50 this month.

This year (as well as the London Marathon), i’m running the Berlin Marathon and I can’t wait to come to New York again in November for the 2019 TCS NYC Marathon.

Who do you run for?
My 19 year old son, Tom, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes back in 2002. I’m a fixer and can’t fix T1D myself, so I’ve devoted all my efforts into raising as much money as I can for a charity that one day could fix him.

Best Moment during a JDRF Run
My best moment was standing on the start line of the TCS NYC Marathon last year (something I never ever thought I would ever achieve) after travelling from the UK alone, and listening to Frank Sinatra singing “New York”. I knew at that moment I could achieve whatever I wanted to achieve in my life. It was such a moving moment.

I’m so honoured to be part of the team again this year and to be running 3 World Marathon Majors in the year I turn 50. One day we will find that cure but until we do, i’ll keep on running and fundraising for as long as I can.
