Walk for T1D – Corvallis Community One Walk on May 9, 2020

in ,

I was diagnosed at the Corvallis Clinic with type 1 diabetes 26 years ago, when I was 9 years old.  Taking insulin saves my life, but what a lot of people don’t know is that simply taking insulin and monitoring my blood sugar, which requires 24-hr vigilance, doesn’t necessarily prevent complications.

After living with type 1 for more than 20 years, I learned I had retinopathies in both eyes and soon after, was stunned by a major bleed in my left eye. Thankfully, new and continuing research has developed procedures to prevent blindness and these procedures saved my vision.  JDRF is committed to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and I’m grateful that we have a walk in Corvallis to raise funds and awareness for T1D.
