JDRF and Ford® Announces Winner of 2021 Bronco First Edition Four-Door in Sweepstakes supporting Type 1 Diabetes Research

New York, NY and Dearborn, MI, December 16, 2021— JDRF, in collaboration with Ford Motor Company, together announce the fundraising sweepstakes winner of the 2021 Bronco First Edition, Derek B. of Greenback, TN.

The annual fundraiser, which supports JDRF’s mission to improve lives by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications, is sponsored by generous donations from the Ford Motor Company.

“JDRF is so excited to continue partnering with the team at Ford to bring such amazing opportunities to our supporters,” said Katie Doyle, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Development and Corporate Giving. “Congratulations to the winner and a huge thanks for supporting JDRF and the T1D community.”

The prized 2021 Bronco is a first edition four-door SUV, colored in a limited-edition lightening blue which includes a lightbar, unique plate on the I/P console, and a credit certificate for customers to purchase items to outfit the vehicle.

“For nearly 25 years, JDRF has been embedded into Ford’s culture and we are proud to be JDRF’s number one corporate partner,” said Renee Godfrey, Corporate Alliances Manager, Ford Motor Company Fund. “This fundraiser raised over $495,000 and the efforts not only bring awareness to T1D but crucial funds to continue JDRF’s important research.”

T1D is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it.
