JDRF Honors Dallas Resident Kim Roosevelt with the 2022 Jim Tyree Chairman’s Award

Dallas, TX and New York, November 3, 2022—JDRF, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, proudly announces Kim Roosevelt as the Jim Tyree Chairman’s Award recipient in recognition of her outstanding contributions as a volunteer leader as the inaugural chair of the JDRF Global Mission Board. Kim’s guidance and mission-focused leadership were essential in developing the charter and activating a group of volunteer leaders for special initiatives critical to achieving organizational goals.

Named for Jim Tyree, former JDRF chairman and a former member of the JDRF International Board of Directors, the Jim Tyree Chairman’s Award recognizes a national volunteer leader who has made a significant and noteworthy contribution to JDRF during their tenure of service. For more than 15 years, Kim has been a leading voice within the local and national T1D community helping foster community relations and bridge the gap between volunteer and staff leaders.

“It is with great pride that we recognize Kim Roosevelt for this important role in addition to her many years of leadership across the organization,” said Aaron Kowalski, Ph.D., JDRF CEO. “Kim’s unwavering support and passion for the JDRF mission has provided guidance that undoubtedly has helped continue driving towards life-changing innovations and advancements for the T1D community.”

Kim and her family joined JDRF in 2007 after her daughter Elizabeth was diagnosed with T1D. She is actively involved in the JDRF Northern Texas and Oklahoma Chapter, where she has devoted her time as a community board and executive council member. Kim created the Dallas JDRF Fund a Cure Luncheon which has raised over $1 million in the past ten years. She has also served as a member of the JDRF International Board of Directors, Children’s Congress Chair, and on the national development committee.

JDRF recognizes and appreciates all the dedicated volunteers and supporters who commit their lives to the worldwide effort to end T1D. Volunteer award recipients were recognized at the annual JDRF One Conference in Washington, DC.

About Type 1 Diabetes (T1D)
T1D is an autoimmune condition that causes the pancreas to make very little insulin or none at all, leading to long-term complications which can include highs and lows in blood sugar; damage to the kidneys, eyes, nerves and heart; and even death if left untreated. It is one of the fastest-growing chronic health conditions. Many believe T1D is only diagnosed in childhood and early puberty, but diagnosis in adulthood is on the rise, and accounts for nearly 50% of all T1D diagnoses. The onset is sudden and nothing can be done to prevent it yet—it is not related to diet or lifestyle. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. There is currently no cure for T1D.
