WE INVITE YOU TO LEARN THE STORY OF THIS YEAR’S COLUMBUS PROMISE BALL FUND-A-CURE FAMILY – Meet the Giancola family!

Hello!

My name is Meggie Giancola and I am a 37-year-old woman, and I bear many identities.  I am…

  • a wife
  • a mother
  • a Senior Vice President at a large advertising organization
  • a friend volunteer
  • a lover of musical theater
  • a spinning enthusiast
  • and much more!

I am also a Type 1 Diabetic.  Every identity I bear at some point has had risk given my T1D.  Every identity I bear has also been enhanced or made possible thanks to JDRF which is why it’s a true honor to be JDRF’s 2023 Fund a Cure Family.

Diagnosed at the age of 10 in Columbus, it was a life altering moment for me and my family.  I was fortunate to have unwavering support from my family and friends, and an incredible medical team at Nationwide Children’s which made me highly engaged in my T1D journey.   However, I also experienced the incredible trials of this disease, like having seizures during a sleepover at a friend’s house in middle school and having to figure out where I could hide my pump in my homecoming dress.

Fast forward to adulthood and upon graduating from Miami University, I moved to New York City where I was figuring out Corporate America and adult life with T1D.  It was also at that time I was introduced to JDRF.  From walk teams to research events, my involvement with and my adoration for JDRF continued to grow. So much so that in 2016, my husband proposed to me at the NYC JDRF One Walk in front of our team of over 30 family and friends. We were becoming a family, my career was growing, and we also hoped to start a family, and JDRF was in the background making every single aspect of my life greater and possible due to their incredible mission of improving the lives of those living with T1D.

JDRF – the community, the medical advancements, the seminars, the advocacy – has been a massive component in allowing me to live a limitless life, as I know it has for so many living with or loving someone with T1D.  I’m thrilled to be partnering with JDRF and spotlighting adults living with T1D, because whether you are a T1D child or parent of a child living with T1D, JDRF is there for you. With that, please join me in supporting our 25th Anniversary Columbus JDRF Promise Ball.  Whether a table, a ticket, or auction item, or an outright Fund A Cure donation, you ’ll be changing someone’s life, a gift they will never forget.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on November 4th!

Meggie
