Memorial Day weekend was the unofficial start of summer! And the summer season means a few extra things to think about when it comes to managing type 1 diabetes (T1D). Our guide is here to help!
Upcoming Virtual Events
Grandparents and Caregivers
Join us on June 10th @ 12:00pm (PST) for a free virtual Zoom event. Is there a Grandparent in your life who’d like to help care for your child living with type one diabetes (T1D)? If so, please invite them to JDRF’s upcoming event – Caring for a Grandchild with T1D! As you well know, there is a lot involved in taking care of a child with T1D – from carb counting, to managing blood sugar, to understanding how insulin is absorbed in the blood stream. Invite your parents and caregivers to come join JDRF for a virtual event that will provide grandparents with the knowledge they need to help care for your child living with T1D. Dr. Saleh Adi, pediatric endo and JDRF Board member, will review what living with T1D means and what grandparents need to know to care for a child with T1D. Dr. Jennifer Schneider, physician, scientist and member of the JDRF International Board of Directors, will review the very latest in T1D research – from prevention and cure, to advances in technology to make it easier to live with T1D. Please make sure to invite the Grandparents to this informative event! Help them get the knowledge and tools they need to babysit your child! https://www.jdrf.org/norcal/events/caring-for-a-grandchild-with-t1d/

With the right tools and support, young people can successfully and healthily live their dreams without compromise! Join the College Diabetes Network to learn best practices and hear lessons learned in the real world; including topics such as parent-child communication, how to empower your child to safely live a full and active life, preparing for college, and more.
ACT1 (Adults Conquering Type 1)
Wednesday, June 9th @ 6:30PM
Special guest speaker for the evening is Karen Jordan, Board of Directors Northern California Chapter, JDRF IBOD Research Chair, and T1D Fund Board Member. Karen will provide a brief overview of JDRF’s research portfolio (Cures & Improving Lives), as well as an overview of the JDRF Centers of Excellence (COE) with a focus on the Northern California COE and the cell-based cures research they are doing. Karen will also touch on JDRF’s research strategy and grant determination process. There will be a Q&A afterwards.
ACT1 is an opportunity to meet other adults living with type 1 diabetes and embrace the support gained from being in a group where everyone “speaks the same language.” Exchange ideas for living well with diabetes and meet some new friends during these creative and informative evenings. This group is for adults 18 and over and meets every other month.
