ACT1 (Adults Conquering Type 1)

Our special guest speaker for the evening is Laura Barba, Nurse Practitioner, CDE, CDCES at UC San Diego Health.

Laura has enjoyed working as a Nurse Practitioner in Diabetes at UC San Diego Health and Rady Children’s San Diego and has about 20 years of experience. Working with people of all ages and addressing the complexities of day-to-day life with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are areas of emphasis. Laura’s main interests in the field includes assisting people with type 1 diabetes transition from pediatric to adult care, optimizing technology use in easing the burden of diabetes in one’s life, and assisting vulnerable individuals/populations access quality diabetes care.

When Laura is not working, she enjoys spending time with her Husband Doug and their two adult children Gavin and Sam as well as babysitting grandnephews and sharing time with extended family and friends.

Whenever possible you can find Laura on long walks in the hills around her home, playing golf with her husband Doug & friends and finding calm and peace though Yoga while living her fullest life with Type 1 diabetes.
