One Walk Flowood Team Spotlight – GRANNY D’S DREAMERS

in , , , ,

A JDRFMS series dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the most important aspect of the JDRF One Walk – YOU! This week, we’re featuring…

Granny D’s Dreamers

This week Michelle Shows of Granny D’s Dreamers shared why their team participates in One Walk:

How long have you had your team? – “10 Years”

Who are you walking for? “Diann and Jeff and all others affected by T1D”

How did you pick your team’s name? “Our team is a family team in honor of my mother, Diann, and my brother, Jeff. Diann has lived successfully with T1D for over 65 years and Jeff for nearly 50. Diann is “Granny D” to Matthew, her grandson.”

Do you have any Walk Day traditions?  “Yes! We order matching shirts, we all meet up early on walk day, say a prayer and get going.”

What is your favorite Walk Day memory?  “Learning of the Medalist Program at Joslin Diabetes Center. The Program recognizes those with diabetes who have been insulin-dependent for 25, 50, 75, or 80 years. As a 50-year Medalist, Diann is an active participant in a study to determine whether protective factors exist to prevent the development of severe complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, and cardiovascular diseases in people with diabetes.”

Thank you to Michelle, the Granny D’s Dreamers Team, and everyone who has created teams and/or shared your reason for walking!
