Advocacy Update with Peggy Kruckemeyer

in ,

The Special Diabetes Program (SDP) is a federally-funded program dedicated to Type 1 Diabetes research.  The program has been in existence for decades but its current two-year funding is up for renewal at the end of this month.  The last renewal was at $150 million per year.  The program has wonderful bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate.

Renewal is moving through the legislative process. We are bundled with other health-related programs but bills that include a four-year renewal of the SDP at $150M per year have passed out of committee in both the House and Senate.  This is great news but does not mean that this is what we will get in the end. Some of these programs may get approved in September but it is entirely possible that there will be a Continuing Resolution passed in September to keep the lights on and full funding passed later in the year.

Stay tuned for October’s newsletter for further news!

I will be manning the Advocacy Table at the TypeOneNation Summit September 21.  Hannah Snodgrass and I will also be doing a breakout session on Advocacy. I would love to see you there if you want to stop by the table and chat.
