Power of Us Virtual Promise Ball Raises over $1.2 Million

When COVID-19 started shutting down the City of Houston we were about seven weeks away from our annual Promise Ball gala. We knew from the beginning that nothing would stop us from putting on an amazing event for our families. We went to work and came up with a plan that proved to be successful. The Power of Us Virtual Promise Ball ended up raising a little over $1.2 million at it’s conclusion Saturday, May 9. Host of Texans TV and a type 1 diabetic himself, Drew Daugherty, emceed the live stream from his home. We had over 600 guests joined our live YouTube event from all over the United States. Guests were able to make a Fund A Cure donation and bid on silent and live auction items. One of our favorite auction items was the adorable Goldendoodle puppy.

We had lots of guests cheer each other on through the chat feature on YouTube. It was nice to hear from so many families we don’t get to see on a regular basis anymore. Our auction was led by our favorite auctioneer Jim Jungers. We also had the great opportunity to honor Peggy and Robert Kruckemeyer. During the event they both shared inspiring words about their journeys with type 1 diabetes and JDRF. The live stream also featured special video messages from T1D heroes and WWE Superstar, Lacey Evans.

Overall the night was a success and we could not have done it without supporters like you. We know these are difficult times. We appreciate all that you have done to help JDRF continueĀ  its efforts to treat, prevent and cure T1D.
