Meet Sabine Rivera, our newest JDRF 2019 Children’s Congress delegate!!!
JDRF Children’s Congress, our highest profile advocacy event, is held every two years in the nation’s capital. This year’s event will take place from July 8 – 10, 2019. The event will include more than 160 children, ages 4 to 17, from across the nation and around the world who will travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with Members of Congress and participate in activities to educate the nation’s top lawmakers and staff about type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Sabine Rivera will represent our South Gulf Coast Chapter and we are so excited for Sabine!
JDRF Children’s Congress has been essential to securing continued government funding for T1D research, as well as raising awareness of the daily burden of T1D for Americans living with this serious autoimmune disease. As a participant in JDRF 2019 Children’s Congress, Sabine will have a unique and empowering opportunity to help Federal lawmakers understand what life with T1D is like, and how research will one day help us create a world without T1D. Sabine will impart firsthand the importance of renewing the $150 million per year Special Diabetes Program (SDP), as well as ensuring that Medicare covers revolutionary devices like artificial pancreas (AP) systems, which will pave the way for the next generation of diabetes-related technologies.
In addition to being critically important, the work that Sabine will do is also extremely gratifying. The trip doesn’t end when Sabine leaves Washington, D.C. Sabine will form lifelong friendships, meet JDRF’s T1D Role Models, develop leadership skills, and leave Children’s Congress as an empowered advocate to use her voice to inspire change that will improve not only Sabine’s life, but the lives of all people impacted by T1D.
