Upstate New York Advocacy Opportunities

JDRF Advocacy’s efforts help build and sustain critical support for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research funded by the Federal Government by raising awareness among Members of Congress of the financial, medical and emotional costs of the disease. We are looking for passionate individuals to join the Upstate NY Advocacy Team as an Advocacy Team Chair and District Captain(s). Advocacy Team Chair (ATC)

Responsibilities Include: The Advocacy Team Chair (ATC) is JDRF Advocacyā€™s lead volunteer organizer in each Chapter / Market. The ATCā€™s role is to support the legislative and policy priorities set forth by JDRF Advocacy by engaging and growing the local base of advocates, taking action on alerts, building relationships with Members of Congress, participating in virtual campaigns, and sharing information on social media.

Skills / Experience Required:
ā€¢ Interest in advocating for issues that are important to the T1D community.
ā€¢ Ability to delegate tasks and manage grassroots volunteers.
ā€¢ Excellent communication skills and creative problem-solving.
ā€¢ Willingness to collaborate on task forces and working groups.

District Captain(s)

Responsibilities Include: The District Captain serves as the ATCā€™s primary contact within the Congressional District in which they are a constituent. The District Captainā€™s role is to support the legislative and policy priorities set forth by JDRF Advocacy by assisting the ATC with securing and leading meetings with their Member of Congress and helping to grow the local base of JDRF Advocates.

Skills / Experience Required:
ā€¢ Interest in advocating for issues that are important to the T1D community.
ā€¢ Excellent communication skills and creative problem-solving.
ā€¢ Willingness to collaborate with fellow volunteers.
ā€¢ While not required, it is ideal to have previously served as a volunteer with JDRF Advocacy, or to have had some experience with grassroots mobilizing.
