We are proud to announce the winner of our Chapter’s 2023 Volunteer Award: Thomas Hoffman Jr. Winners of this award are volunteer leaders whose contribution of time and talent have significantly impacted their local communities and are moving JDRF’s mission forward.

Tom has volunteered with JDRF for over 25 years. In the words of our Market Director, Denise Nicastro, “Tom is always giving of his time and support. [He] has demonstrated great leadership during the rebuilding of the Upstate NY Chapter, [and] he is always willing to lend a hand and help wherever the Chapter may need support.” Tom currently serves as the Board President for our Northeastern New York Board of Directors. He is also registered for his 6th JDRF Ride this year and recently helped moderate one of our T1D Connections meetings. On June 7, 2023, the Chapter will host the 23rd Annual JDRF Golf Classic presented by Hoffman Car Wash, an event chaired by Tom and his wife, Erin Hoffman.

When asked why he volunteers with JDRF, Tom shared that “as a local family business and a leader in our community, we have a responsibility to help strong, well-run, community engaged organizations. JDRF over the years has improved the lives of people with T1D and we truly believe they are closing in on a cure. A cure [for T1D] is within reach and, while we wait, JDRF-supported research has brought technological advancements, like closed loop systems, which has helped improve the lives of so many. Volunteering to help JDRF find a cure is our passion.”

The Upstate New York Chapter sincerely thanks Tom Hoffman Jr. for his commitment to advancing our mission!
