April 29th- Tee1D Golf Tournament

Four neighbor families who have all been touched by T1D have started the Tee1D Golf Tournament at Williamsburg National Golf Course. On April 29th, the second annual tournament was held. Through the combined efforts of these families, they have raised $10,110.01 for T1D research! We are SO thankful for your support of JDRF and are in awe their dedication to finding a cure for T1D and it’s complications!

April 29th- Students from Norfolk Academy joined us to volunteer

Suggested by T1D and Ride for a Cure Team Member Keira Mann, students from Norfolk Academy joined us on April 29th for their ‘Paws for a Cause’ day of service.  They rote letters to newly diagnosed children, helped organize some of our supplies, and made some incredible photos and videos for us to promote on our social media pages. May 4th- Family Bowling Event

We hosted 140 (!!) people at Pinboy’s at the Beach in Virginia Beach for a bowling party! Pinboy’s was generous enough to donate the time and space to us which made for a fantastic and cost effective way for families to get to know each other. June 2nd- T1D Mini Session Day with Sarah Adams Photography

Our Gala Photographer and T1D Mama, Sarah Adams, graciously donated her time and talent to host a T1D Mini Session Day for families. This event, which she did pro bono, gave families a unique opportunity to capture life with their T1D.

In her own words, “When my daughter was diagnosed, I realized we’d not had any recent family photos done. That scared me. As a professional photographer, I had ZERO excuses.I decided that after we came home from that hospital, it was going to change. I wanted to celebrate her overcoming the trauma of her diagnosis, capture her beautiful wild spirit, immortalize her strength and let her forever be seen as I see her- absolutely perfect. It would be my honor to do this for other T1D families- every family should have photos together. I also understand the difference between luxury and necessity- we all know this disease is a costly one; unavoidably so. Photography is an investment, also costly and sadly isn’t an option for many families. I’d like the opportunity to gift that to the families who are all in this with us. It would be my honor and pleasure to give you all these memories.”

June 3rd- 9th Annual Walk for Hannah Golf Tournament

The Speight Family hosted the 9th Annual Walk for Hannah Golf Tournament. This year, they were able to raise over $12,000 for JDRF’s mission! The Speight family has been involved with JDRF for many years. Dad Steve has served on the Board of Directors, mom Angie and daughter Hannah both have T1D. The Golf Tournament included a silent auction, giveaways, and on-the-hole fundraisers including a hand made cornhole board (made by Mr. Speight himself!) that went for more than $1,000. Supported by a dedicated group of family and friends, the Walk for Hannah Golf Tournament is a fantastic kickoff to the Summer season every year.

We continually impressed with the Speight family’s innovative golf tournament year over year. We cannot WAIT until the 10th annual tournament! Congratulations, Speight family!
