Teach Kids Consistent Dental Care Habits

What does brushing and flossing have to do with Type 1 diabetes (T1D)? The health of the mouth and the health of the body are interconnected. Oral bacteria caused by poor dental hygiene can be found in other parts of the body and has been known to complicate overall wellness.

Children living with T1D, a serious medical condition to manage, can benefit from taking proper care of their teeth and gums. The healthy habits they establish as kids can set them on the right path toward better oral health as adults. As they manage their T1D, good oral hygiene can prevent additional health headaches.

Kids and adults alike should maintain a daily dental care regimen that includes brushing for at least two minutes, flossing and rinsing. It is also important to visit the dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings so problems can be detected early and treated promptly.
