JDRF Central Pennsylvania Chapter Introduced a New Office on Wednesday, September 25th

Camp Hill, PA, October 2nd, 2019 ― The JDRF Central Pennsylvania Chapter hosted a Ribbon Cutting and  Open House of its new office on Wednesday, September 25^th at 1104 Fernwood Avenue. Organized in conjunction with the West Shore Chamber of Commerce (WSCC), the ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by several Chamber members including George M. Book, Jr., WSCC President and CEO,   Krystin Blauch, WSCC Communications and Events Director, and WSCC board member Sam Jones of Lamar Advertising. During the ceremony, a certificate of recognition was presented to Central PA Board President, Lisa Papa, by Ryan Stevens, Distric Office Manager to Pennsylvania State Representative Sheryl Delozier. Mr. Book also presented Ms. Papa with a certificate of appreciation.  “The West Shore Chamber is thrilled to welcome JDRF’s Central Pennsylvania Chapter to the community.  JDRF is a great organization and we know they will have a tremendous impact in the area,” Mr. Book commented.

The JDRF Central PA Chapter relocated its office in July 2019 from Market Street to1004 Fernwood Avenuein Camp Hill, PA.  Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests were encouraged to explore the new office space and enjoy refreshments. The open house was attended by JDRF chapter board members, donors, volunteers, and community members.

JDRF encourages people of all ages to participate in the JDRF Community which continues to make strides towards finding a cure for Type 1 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults at any age. In T1D, the body’s immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body. T1D requires rigorous 24/7 monitoring of blood glucose levels to avoid devastating complications. Its onset is sudden and unpreventable, and it is unrelated to diet or lifestyle.

Donations to JDRF enable research on how to prevent, treat and ultimately cure T1D. This research has led to life-changing drugs, treatments and devices, many of which have already moved into clinical trials and real-world testing.

About T1D
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it.
