15-year-old Joey Trinkala Travels to 2019 JDRF Children’s Congress

in

On July 7th and 8th, our friend Joey Trinkala and his family traveled to Washington D.C. to take part in this year’s Children’s Congress! Joey became one of more than 160 children living with type 1 diabetes that gathered to meet face-to face with some of the top-decision makers in the U.S. government.

Joey met Representative Conor Lamb and Senator Casey, as well as several fellow T1Ds including Victor Garber (actor), Jennifer Stone (actress), and JDRF President and CEO Aaron Kowalski! Most importantly, Joey represented Pennsylvania and helped Members of Congress understand what life is like with T1D, and why funding research for life-changing therapies until a cure can be found is so critical.

Joey was diagnosed with T1D at the age of 8. Since his diagnosis, Joey and his family have been involved with JDRF, participating in JDRF One Walk, Galas, and serving as mentors for newly diagnosed families. Now, Joey is 15 and he loves playing hockey, hanging out with his dog, and spending time with his friends and his family. We are so proud of you, Joey! Thank you for bringing your positive attitude and passion to D.C.!
