Annual Meeting Awards Recap

in

Last month, we held our 2020 Annual Meeting. Thank you to those that tuned in to hear an organizational update from our Regional Director, Craig Roberston, a mission update from JDRF’s Chief Mission Officer, a celebration of our previous fiscal year, and a look at where we’re going!

If you missed the Annual Meeting, you can watch it by clicking here!

We wanted to give a special shout-out to some incredible volunteers that went above and beyond to make our year so successful:

  • Excellence Endurance Award: Lori and Rich Hensler

Lori and Rich rode in the 2019 Ride to Cure Diabetes in Death Valley, raising over $16,000! Lori also serves on the chapter’s Board of Directors.

Quote from Lori and Rich: “We met so many amazing, kind and just determined people. I swear there were as many volunteers as there were riders too. Many of the riders out on the road were T1D too! So inspirational!  All the other riders, the coaches and volunteers were key helping us to finish. They were encouraging us all along the ride route, all the way to the finish line.”

  • Family of the Year: The Miklos Family

This family really does it all—their Walk team raised over $20,000 last year, volunteer for just about every event in our chapter, serve as youth ambassadors, and Mom, Cindy, serves on our Promise Gala Committee!

Quote from The Miklos Family: “We are honored and humbled to receive this award.   We have always felt a sense of reward by being associated with JDRF and its mission.  Since our daughter was diagnosed in 2017, we relied on JDRF not only as a source of information, but also inspiration and support.  JDRF provided our family with a sense of community by knowing that we were not alone, and provided a platform for connecting with other families affected by Type 1 and brought us together under a common cause – making Type 1 “Type None”.  We are extremely proud and grateful to be associated with JDRF and the wonderful people.  And we remain committed to stand by JDRF’s side and the side of all families as we battle this disease together.”

  • The Emerging Leader: Rachel Zenkevich

Rachel will be serving as the President of the Emerging Leaders Committee (ELC) this year for our chapter. After serving as Vice President for two years, volunteering at Walk, Annual Meeting, Gala, and other events, and ensuring the success of the ELC’s Trivia Night events, it was a no-brainer to give her this award!

Quote from Rachel: “Seeing a close family member, who I love, live with type 1 diabetes motivates me to lead the emerging leaders committee. Every day I get to work alongside hardworking young professionals who share my passion to fundraise and volunteer so we can live in a world without T1D.”

Thank you to all these incredible people! We couldn’t do it without you!
