Below is a statement from the Pittsburgh Marathon regarding the cancellation of the event and your race options:
We regret to share with all of you that the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon will not take place in 2020. We know that this is the right thing to do to ensure the safety of our participants, staff, volunteers, medical professionals, security personnel and spectators.
We have been working around the clock to try to make things as right as we possibly can. At a high level, all of you who are already registered for the event will have two options:
1. The first is to run virtually. To take advantage of this option, all you need to do is run your race wherever you want, whenever you want. you don’t need to change anything on your registration – you will be automatically switched to the virtual version of your event and receive your medal and shirt (and Knockaround sunglasses if you are registered for a Sunday event). We anticipate being able to ship all of your race swag by the end of May 2020. We promise to make this the best virtual race experience you’ve ever had, and will share all of the details about the virtual race experience by April 1!
2. Your second option is to receive a refund of your registration. We know how frustrating it is to prepare for a race that doesn’t happen. And while it is not our policy to offer refunds, we are making an exception in this extraordinary situation for those of you who do not want to participate virtually. We completely understand how you feel, and we hope you come back to MOVE with us in 2021.
Any runner who wishes to have their race registration fees refunded will need to access their Race Roster account and edit their event registration no later than April 1, 2020:
1. Sign in to your Race Roster account
2. Click the blue Edit Registration button
3. Under the Registrations Questions tab, select “Refund.”
4. Click Save & Exit to finalize your choice.
I’m a charity runner, and I’m not sure what to do! You have options, too! We’ve identified a few scenarios that charity runners may find themselves in, and here they are:
Charity runner who has already raised the minimum amount for his/her/their race and has received or is already eligible for refunded registration: You will automatically be enrolled in the virtual race option and receive your medal and shirt (and sunglasses if you are registered for a qualifying event). And, if you have not yet received your registration refund, you will after the next fundraising deadline on March 31, 2020.
Charity runner who has NOT yet raised the minimum amount for his/her/their race but still wants to continue fundraising: You will automatically be enrolled in the virtual race option and receive your medal and shirt (and sunglasses if you are registered for a qualifying event). If you reach your minimum fundraising goal for your specific event by May 31, 2020, you will receive a refund of your registration fee. If you do not reach your minimum fundraising goal for your specific event by May 31, 2020, you will not receive a refund.
Charity runner who has NOT yet raised the minimum amount for his/her/their race, does not want to race virtually or continue fundraising and instead wants a refund: You will need to access your Race Roster account and edit your registration by April 1, 2020 to let us know that you want a refund.
