We are looking for your help to put together a beautiful project for our Madison JDRF Spring Gala!

With your help, we are creating a quilt that will be made by our type 1 children to be sold in our live auction during the gala. This is a fantastic opportunity for your children to be creatively involved with JDRF as well as getting to spend time with other type 1 kids. Whether your child has been recently diagnosed or has had type 1 for years, they are invited to participate in this project. Please read on for all the information you need.

The quilt will be a reflection of our theme this year, ā€œA Galaxy of Possibilitiesā€¦ā€ We would like the quilt to reflect the theme as much as possible.

Please contact Lori Fons at lfons@jdrf.org or 608-833-2873 if you would like to pick up a quilt kit or if you have questions.

Here is an example of one of our finished squares. Read below about what exactly your child will be doing!

What will my child do? We would like each child to make their own quilt square of their own design. We do have squares, fabric and scraps available at the office, however you may also use your own fabric (quilting fabric preferred), as well. There are some guidelines that must be met, however:

ā˜†Ā  The main colors of the square should be those of jewel tones. For example, blues, greens, purples, yellows, magenta or oranges. The designs should follow the theme, such as stars, the Milky Way, constellations, planets, sun, night sky.

ā˜†Ā  The finished square should be 8 Ā½ā€ x 8 Ā½ā€.Ā  One-quarter inch of that all the way around will be used for stitching, so the main design should be within the middle 8ā€ x 8ā€

ā˜†Ā  Each child should put either their first name only, or initials on the square in a space no larger than 1ā€ x 4ā€. Do not put it in the corner, as the outside Ā¼ā€ will be used for stitching the quilt together.

ā˜†Ā  You may use fabric glue or sew your square together.

ā˜†Ā  You may decorate the square with fabric, permanent markers, etc., but please no embellishments.

Embellishments will be removed.

ā˜†Ā  Artistā€™s pens and glue are available for use from the JDRF office, as well as fabric.

Do you like to sew? We have an experienced quilter donating her time and talent to this project, but we could still use your help. If you are able to help with sewing the squares together to prepare them for the quilter, let me know.

Do you have fabric you would like to donate? We would love to use it. Please bring it to the JDRF office or we can find a volunteer to pick it up from you.

Feeling a little overwhelmed? I know I was! We want this to be fun for your child. We are planning an evening or two coming up soon, where we can all meet and work on our squares together. JDRF will provide the space and supplies needed to create the perfect squares!

When is this all due? We need the completed squares in the JDRF office no later than February 29th, in order to give the quilter sufficient time to complete the quilt.
