Interested in Being an Outreach Volunteer?

Western Wisconsin needs YOU!

As part of our national T1D Connections Program, newly diagnosed families have the option to request an Outreach Volunteer. Our Outreach Volunteers serve as a window into the world of living with T1D, or parenting a child with T1D. Many newly diagnosed families don’t know anyone who’s gone through the diagnosis before, and having someone to reach out to makes all the difference.

In this role, the volunteer is a support, educator, and connector as well as a steward of what will hopefully become a dedicated relationship between the newly diagnosed and JDRF. This will be accomplished through relationship building activities, both proactive and reactive throughout the first twelve months of your assigned familiesā€™/individualsā€™ diagnosis, e.g. making an introductory phone call, highlighting the monthly emails sent by chapter staff, personally inviting them to join you at chapter events, and identifying opportunities for further engagement as advocates, volunteers and fundraisers. Your commitment level can be as low as 4 contacts a year, up to as often as you’d like.

Role requirements:

  • Over a year of experience of living with or caring for someone with T1D
  • Have a positive outlook on life with T1D
  • Understand the JDRF mission and be familiar with areas of research focus, and of outreach program and resource
  • Participate in one or more of the chapter fundraising event (e.g. Walk, Gala, Team JDRF, etc.)

We have openings and a need for volunteers in this role in both the La Crosse and Madison areas so that we can better serve all newly diagnosed families and welcome them into the JDRF community. Please reach out to Lottie Brooks (LBrooks@JDRF.org) if you’re interested, and she can send you the full job description and register you for training.
