Your Walk, Your Way

Create a walk route in your neighborhood, challenge yourself with a long hike, or walk inside on your treadmill – however you choose to walk, October 23rd will be a day for our community to celebrate our stories, recognize our accomplishments, and walk to change the future for everyone living with T1D. JDRF will be celebrating with you on Facebook and sharing stories throughout the day.

Meet a few of our Walk families!

Meet 1st year walk team, Molly’s Fan Club! They decided to participate this year because October marks Molly’s first dia-versary. “What we thought was Zoom fatigue during her third grade school-from-home was really Molly in DKA. We ended up in the hospital for four days and a confirmed diagnosis of T1D in October 2020. We left the hospital with test strips and an insulin pen. By December, we had a CGM and by April–two weeks after in-school schooling began–Molly had an insulin pump.” Molly hasn’t let her diagnosis slow her down. Over the summer she went to Camp Shalom and art camp. She was even been able to sleepover at her best friend’s house! “We’re certainly still learning, but we’ve come a long way since this time last year. And even though we haven’t been able to meet anyone in person, we’ve had loads of help and advice from those we’ve “met” in the local T1D community. And that has been priceless.” -Kate (Molly’s mom)
Molly’s Fan Club is doing AMAZING with their FUNdraising too!! Over $4,000 raised, WOW! Keep up the great work!
Meet Returning Walk team, Ashley’s Acrobats. This will be Ashley’s Acrobats 10th walk season!! Ashley and her family started walking to raise awareness and funds for a cure! Ashley loves spending time with her two pups, going on family hikes, swimming and doing art projects. She handles diabetes just like any other challenge, one day/step at a time. She feels like it does get a tad easier the longer you do it. To fundraise, Ashley’s Acrobats uses social media, they ask friends and family, and hold a craft sale. What a creative way to raise funds! Thank you for being such a staple at our walks!

We LOVE to spotlight our walk teams and families! If you’d like to be featured please send an e-mail to Ashleigh Sand at asand@jdrf.org.
