Wishing safe travels to our JDRF Ride Team as they begin to journey to their destinations this ride season. In August, there are 2 Eastern PA Chapter riders heading to Lacrosse, Wisconsin and 7 riders heading to Loveland, Colorado. Our chapter has an inspiring 21 riders taking to the course in Saratoga Springs, NY in September. Amelia Island, Florida will host 10 members of the JDRF Eastern PA Ride Team! Whether this is your first JDRF Ride or if you have done Rides before, we know that the Ride weekend is an experience that you will never forget!
From the minute you arrive at the location, you feel immediately connected with other riders, staff and families that are all there to support our common goal of turning Type One into Type None! JDRF plans a wonderful weekend of information sessions, meals, a training ride, as well as some free time for you to explore the area or meet fellow riders. We found the dinners to be a highlight of the weekend with inspirational speakers, presentations, research updates and comradery with fellow riders from our own chapter.
Some tips for Ride day: #1: HYDRATE!! No matter your distance, this is the most important tip! #2: Stop at EVERY rest stop, get off your bike, walk around, eat something, then hop back on and log some more miles. Your final distance is up to you, but whether it is 25 miles or 100 miles, be proud of your accomplishment! #3: Look around and you will notice that riders with T1D are riding alongside you. THEY are the real heroes of the day! They will inspire you to keep pedaling.
Best wishes for a wonderful Ride weekend to every member of our JDRF Ride Team! We will all be cheering you on from home.
