Ambassador Interview with Claire Jones!

Hello everyone, meet Claire Jones! She is a JDRF youth ambassador for our Fort Worth chapter. Read her interview below.
My name is Claire Jones and I am a sophomore at Graham High School. I just turned 16, and get to experience the great world of driving!
What is your favorite color and animal? My favorite color has to be purple, and Iā€™m in love with sloths, otters, and koala bears!
How do you prepare for running? I recently switched over to the Medtronic 670g and I LOVE it! One of the best features is the blood sugar temp target setting. During sporting events, such as track meets, I set a temp target at 150 1 hour before my event and time It where It will stay as the target for up to two hours after my competition.
What is your favorite low snack? I hardly go low with my new pump, but when I do I treat with chocolate milk! Itā€™s my go-to low snack.
What advice would you give to someone who was just diagnosed? To someone who has just been diagnosed, I will say this disease will throw curveballs your way often. But soon youā€™ll learn to hit any T1D ball thrown your way out of the park. Our labels do not limit! I had a nurse tell me after my diagnosis, ā€œClaire, you are not diabetic. You are Claire Jones who just happens to have diabetes,ā€ and that has stuck with me hard.
What is your biggest T1D accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment with T1D is each and everyday I get out of bed and decide not to let this disease control me! When you realize you are in charge of your situation, not the situation being in charge of you, it will make each day a little bit better.
Ā Can you tell me about this photo?Ā This picture is of my 800 meter relay team (left to right is Rosie, Alli, me, and Summer). We had just received silver medals at the regional meet, which means we qualified for state!! Graham has not sent a relay team to state in over 18 years! Not only did we qualify for state, we also broke the school record by a second! Tears were shed, hugs were exchanged, and smiles are still seen proudly on our faces! Ecstatic is an understatement of how we feel. We are so blessed with this experience and we are so thankful for the support we have been given.
What is your plan for college? I currently plan on attending ACU in the fall of 2020 with a focus in biology in hopes to eventually go to medical school.
What is your favorite JDRF memory? JDRF has been a constant in my life with T1D, and my favorite memory with JDRF is being able to attend Childrenā€™s Congress in the summer of 2017 and being able to see Ted Cruz talk to our youngest member in such a genuine way. I also ADORE the OneWalk! Getting to walk with family and friends while raising awareness for our disease is so exciting!

Thank you Claire for continuing to support JDRF!
