Volunteers of the Month – Christina Middlebrook and Roberta McCollum

in

The Nevada Chapter Volunteer of the Month program is sponsored by our community partners at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. Each month we highlight one of our fabulous chapter volunteers and that volunteer will receive gift cards for free meals from Raising Cane’s.

We are pleased to announce our Raising Canes Volunteer of the Month for October is Christina Middlebrook and our Volunteer of the Month for November is Roberta McCollum.

The Middlebrook family has been involved with the JDRF Southern Nevada Chapter since Conner was diagnosed shortly before his second birthday.

Christina has been involved with a variety of outreach programs. She is a tireless advocate for type 1 diabetes research and helped Conner share his story both locally and with our elected officials. He recently accompanied chapter advocates to a meeting with Representative Titus to speak about CGM coverage and the renewal of the Special Diabetes Program.

Christina currently serves in the Bag of Hope program, delivering a backpack filled with information and resources for families newly diagnosed with diabetes.  During the month of October alone, she was responsible for delivering more than 15 bags to new families! Her efforts go beyond delivering the bags, Christina continues to connect with the families throughout the year and guide them through the challenges of their new lives with diabetes. Several of these family connections joined her JDRF One Walk team, Conner’s Cure Team, at the walk on November 4th.

Thank you Christina for all your hard work on behalf of the JDRF Southern Nevada Chapter!

The November Volunteer of the Month joined the JDRF Southern Nevada Chapter shortly after her nephew Ben was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just before his third birthday. Roberta is a committed volunteer and has volunteered consistently for our walk and gala events. Last year she managed a leadership positions with the JDRF One Walk and was in charge of the volunteers communicating with our family walk teams.

This year, Roberta took on a new role for the JDRF One Walk and helped create a favorite area of the walk experience for many of our families.

The Mile of Hope displays the faces of the adults and children living with type 1 diabetes in our chapter whose walk teams raised over $500. Roberta carefully crafted each sign from the pictures and information submitted by the walk teams and created over 70 individual signs. These signs are treasured year after year by our families living with type 1 and we are grateful to Roberta for all her hard work.

Thank you Roberta for your efforts in honor of your nephew and thank you for your commitment to the JDRF Southern Nevada Chapter!
