My Diabetes Blessing

In support of both World Diabetes Month and Thanksgiving, the blogging community has launched a new opportunity to share your story – this time by posting your Diabetes Blessing!

This one is easy for me.  I am blessed that my husband has lived with type 1 diabetes for fifty years, and even though he has experienced almost every complication imaginable, he is doing great and enjoys life!  I am also blessed that we have been married for 25 years (tomorrow – November 24, 2010!) and, together, we do everything in our power to make sure that promising diabetes research continues to be funded – and better treatments and cures are just around the corner.

Since I’m also a renegade at times, I’m also going to break the rules and share my Diabetes Wish as well.  My husband and I both wish that the Special Diabetes Program will be renewed when Congress returns after the Thanksgiving holiday.  If it ISN’T renewed, type 1 diabetes research funding will DROP by 35%!  Clinical trials will be dropped or scaled back!  We can’t let this happen!

I wish all of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.  And, as you give thanks with family and friends, why don’t you tuck in your little wish that the Special Diabetes Program be renewed!
