Since joining Florida Hospital in Sept 2013, Jay has served as the Director for Global Strategy, and he also contributed to development and is an instructor for the Florida Hospital innovative Physician Leader Development Program. Prior to joining Florida Hospital, Jay served for over 25 years as a Soldier in the US Army; at the time of his retirement in Oct 2013, he was Commanding Officer of the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade in Germany, the largest Aviation Brigade in the United States Army. Jay commanded units at every level from platoon to Brigade in both the Conventional Army and Special Operations Forces. Jay has numerous Combat and Peacekeeping deployments including Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan and he has served in a variety of other countries during his career. Jay holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Management from Elon College, a Master’s Degree in Administration from Central Michigan University, a Master’s Degree in Joint Campaign Planning and Strategy from the National Defense University, and is a graduate of The Art and Practice of Leadership and Leadership Development, Harvard University JFK School of Government Executive Programs. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys biking, hiking, water sports, and all athletic activities. Jay’s number one hobby is his family; he is married to his high school sweetheart and best friend, Joyce, and they have one daughter, Hailey, and one son, Jake.
Jay’s father was a type 1 diabetic from the age of 14 up until his death at the age of 50 due to complications associated with diabetes. Jays “much younger” sister, Carla, is also a type 1 diabetic, and is heavily involved in giving her time and effort in support of the JDRF Central Florida Chapter. Carla has inspired Jay, as well as her entire family and countless others, with her tireless efforts to support for JDRF. Jay is honored to be a part of the solution to cure diabetes, and is excited about the JDRF One walk and the inspiration it will provide all to contribute and be a part of the diabetes solution for the future!
