Meet the Las Vegas 2015 JDRF One Walk Event Chairs

event chair pictureThe Las Vegas JDRF One Walk is a little more than two months away, but teams are already registering, and people from all over the Las Vegas valley are starting up their fundraising. And here at JDRF, this year’s walk chairs – Dr. Samer and Dr. Danielle Nakhle – are hard at work to make sure this year’s walk is the best yet.

The Nakhles’ work with JDRF started at their own medical practice, Palm Medical Group and Palm Research Center. After holding two sneaker campaigns and creating their own corporate walk team, the two wanted to find a new way to keep supporting JDRF during the walk. That led them to taking on the Walk Chair position, and they’re excited to be in charge of the task!

One of the Nakhles’ biggest goals for this year’s walk is to help bridge the gap between walkers and the medical world. “I am hopeful that the diabetes care pharmaceutical companies will be even more supportive of this year’s One Walk,” Dr. Danielle Nakhle says. “It is a perfect venue for people with diabetes to talk and interact with companies about their products and services. It is also very important for medical professionals to be be involved with JDRF so they know what resources are available for people with type 1 diabetes.”

But just because these two are working so hard behind the scenes doesn’t mean they aren’t excited about walk day itself. In fact, their favorite part about the walk is seeing everyone from both corporate and family teams come out to support those living with T1D. And Palm Medical Group fit right into the mix with a team of over 80 people walking last year. Danielle says the ultimate key to strong team is ‘fun.’ “Be enthusiastic; whether it is having t-shirt design contests or seeing who can raise more money for their team. The walk really brought the people in our office together and I hope that happens for other companies as well.”

Donate to the Las Vegas Avengers or the Diabetes Demolishers – the two Palm Medical Group and Palm Research Center teams, or register your own team for the JDRF One Walk on November 14.
