Volunteer of the Month – Yareli Espino

in

The Southern Nevada Chapter Volunteer of the Month program is sponsored by our community partners at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. Each month we highlight one of our fabulous chapter volunteers and that volunteer receives gift cards for free meals from Raising Cane’s.

We are pleased to announce our Raising Canes Volunteer of the Month for March is Yareli Espino.

Yareli Espino

Yareli is mom to Gino, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in July 2015. This year Gino joined our young leaders as part of our Youth Ambassador program. Yareli and Gino participate together in many of our advocacy, stewardship, and educational opportunities in the community as part of the program.

In addition to volunteering in the office with her family as we prep and clean up for our various events, Yareli serves a unique and needed role on the outreach team with our new families. Because she is bilingual, Yareli is able to serve the Spanish speaking community in our area and help answer questions as they adjust to a new diagnosis. She helped to host the Diabetes 101 session in Spanish at the TypeOneNation Summit in February.

While volunteering with the chapter in numerous ways, Yareli has also seen an exponential growth in her walk team. Between her first and second year team, her fundraising total grew an impressive 5075%!

Thank you Yareli for supporting the community and the mission of the JDRF Southern Nevada Chapter!
