Off to College wrap-up

This past weekend, the Greater Fort Worth chapter of JDRF hosted our first Off to College conversation.

We kicked off the day with an informative presentation from Dr. Mary Beth Cox, who shared important topics like finding a new doctor, registering for accommodations at your new school, getting sick in college, building your core community, and staying out of trouble!MBC

From there, our panel of post-college adults living with T1D, current college students living with T1D, and parent’s of collegians living with T1D answered questions from the parents and students preparing for the college transition! Important topics were roommates, the stress of college, and remaining active after high school.

After this open conversation, parents and teens split up into to separate rooms with two separate panels to have an honest discussion about any concerns from either side. Current college students offered advice an encouragement to future college students. Current and former T1 college parents shared success stories about the transition.

Overall, the afternoon was a great success thanks to the planning of our outreach coordinator Courtney, our great panel of students and parents, the wonderful presentation by Mary Beth, and the attendance of our future JDRF college families!
