We are thrilled to welcome JDRF Greater New York City Chapter’s new Executive Director, Mimi K. Crabtree!

Mimi has served as the Executive Director for the Illinois Chapter for nearly seven years. During her tenure at JDRF’s largest chapter, she has worked with her team to grow revenue from $11 million to $30 million per year. She has done so by leveraging her strong leadership and interpersonal skills, launching new revenue sources, and cultivating a spirit of excellence and accomplishment at the chapter. She has provided strategic direction for fundraising initiatives and chapter events, including Gala, Walk, Ride, Real Estate Games, Young Leadership Committee, Rock the Cure and Outreach initiatives.

Mimi has cultivated and developed donor and corporate relationships across the Illinois chapter and is committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition. She will continue to support the great work of the Illinois chapter over the next 2-3 months, while also focusing on energizing and leading the Greater New York City Chapter.

In her new role, Mimi will work with all members of the Greater New York City Chapter including the strong staff, engaged board members, donors, and community volunteers throughout the chapter territory. Her ability to drive high performance and a culture of inclusivity will continue to help propel us towards our critical mission goals. Her experience, both at JDRF and at other major nonprofit organizations, will strongly impact the chapter’s mission commitment of increased engagement, audience expansion, and revenue success. Her strategic acumen makes her a strong choice for this important Executive Director role in the largest market in the country.

Prior to joining JDRF, Mimi served in a number of leadership roles including, Vice President of United Way in Chicago, Vice President of the Dallas Arboretum/Botanic Garden and Director of Individual Giving at the Dallas Symphony. She serves on the Illinois Diabetes Caucus Foundation, Illinois Diabetes Policy Coalition and Chicago Ideas and is a member of The Economics Club in Chicago. Her volunteer spirit has led her to engagement in her church and a myriad of local charitable organizations.

After growing up in Latin America, Mimi lived in and experienced several different areas across the country, including Washington, D.C., Cincinnati, New York, Boston, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Dallas, and Chicago. She is excited to return to the metro NY area. Mimi is the mother of two adult daughters who live in Miami and work in the fashion industry. She is a devoted worldwide traveler, avid reader and book club member and loves trying out new restaurants. She plans to be very busy doing that in New York.

We are so excited to have Mimi join the Greater New York City Chapter team and together, we will continue to lead the fight against type 1 diabetes.
