JDRF Annual Meeting and President’s Reception Recap

On June 22, 2017, The South Jersey Chapter held its Annual Meeting for FY 2017, which ended on June 30, 2017. The meeting was a celebration of the tremendous accomplishments for our chapter in furthering the goal to end Type I Diabetes. During FY 2017, our chapter raised close to $2 million. FY 2017 also saw record participation in Ā our JDRF Ride and gala and we welcomed a new location for our Fall JDRF One Walk in Gloucester Township at Camden County College! Other significant accomplishments included

  • Because of JDRFā€™s role and early investments in artificial pancreas (AP) technology and our advocacy teamā€™s tireless work with the FDA to create a regulatory pathway for approval, the first closed loop AP system hit the market this year.Ā 
  • The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services agreed to provideĀ Medicare beneficiaries with reimbursement for continuous glucose monitorsĀ that are approved for informing diabetes treatment decisions
  • Ā We launched the JDRF T1D Fund, an innovative venture philanthropy fund aimed at helping early-stage companies bring life-changing T1D therapies to market and putting therapeutic products in the hands of people with T1D faster. Ā  Ā Ā Ā  Ā  Ā Ā 

At the Annual Meeting we also presented the following awards, recognizing outstanding volunteer contributions to our chapter:

  • Ā Volunteer of the Year-Ā Chrissy Greatrex
  • Outstanding Leadership Award-Victor Mogell
  • Outstanding Corporate Partner-DT1 Charities
  • Unsung Hero Award-Ā Steven Katz

Additional highlights of the Annual Meeting included a presentation by JDRF International Volunteer of the Year and Member of the JDRF National Speakers Bureau, Moira McCarthy. Moira detailed the many research advancements and provided an update on JDRF’s key research programs.Ā JDRF made exciting progress this year in our mission of accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.
