T1Detect: Why Should you be Screened
T1Detect, JDRF’s screening education and awareness program, will arm you with the information you need before and after getting screened for type 1 diabetes (T1D) autoantibodies. Until now, T1D symptoms and a diagnosis often come out of the blue. Today, families can use testing to detect T1D early so they can plan and prepare. With one blood test, anyone at any age can find out—before symptoms even occur—if they are at risk for developing T1D. The test is easy, simple and can help save lives. Due to current state regulations, testing kits are currently not available for distribution to addresses Pennsylvania.
A Big Step Toward Prevention
Being diagnosed with T1D means a lifetime of dependence on insulin and careful management to avoid dangerous blood-sugar highs and lows. JDRF has been working for decades to prevent and cure this disease, and making this blood test available to everyone is a promising step towards that.
Because T1D starts long before insulin dependency, families will be able to prepare, develop a plan for further monitoring with their doctor and hopefully avoid serious and sometimes life-threatening conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), along with possible hospitalization that can be more common at the onset of the disease. And that’s not all. JDRF-funded research is closer than ever to developing therapies that can intervene and disrupt the disease’s progress before insulin dependency even begins.

Join a great group of T1D kids for Kidz Krew every third Wednesday @ 6:00pm!
Kidz Krew is a group of grade school aged kids (5-10) living with T1D from the Greater Delaware Valley area. This is an opportunity to connect with other kids for fun, laughter and to support one another. T1D Moms Amy & Jess will engage kids in games and getting to know each other! REGISTER HERE

Join the T1D Community in the Greater Delaware Valley for a virtual meet up bimonthly the third Thursday @ 6:30pm. Whether you were diagnosed yesterday or twenty years ago, join us and connect with other adults 25 and older living with T1D. Grab an adult beverage or hot tea and join us for casual conversation – share experiences, stories, ask questions while making new friends and building relationships with people who know what you go through on a day to day basis.
