Stefany Shaheen

Chief Strategy Officer, ARMI | BioFabUSA; Co-Founder, Good Measures; Author; Advocate; Mother of a Child Living with T1D

Shaheen is an advocate, entrepreneur, and business leader. As Chief Strategy Officer for ARMI | BioFabUSA, Shaheen is working to realize the promise of biomanufacturing to deliver life-changing therapies for the world’s most costly chronic diseases, including the manufacture of insulin-responsive beta cells for diabetes. She co-founded Good Measures, a company harnessing the power of food as medicine. Good Measures was awarded a suite of patents by the U.S Patent Office and Shaheen is a named inventor. She was inspired to launch Good Measures following her eldest daughter's diagnosis with type 1 diabetes.

Shaheen has dedicated herself to making life better for people living with diabetes. She authored The New York Times bestseller, “Elle & Coach,” about the experience of parenting a child with type 1 diabetes. This also led Shaheen to join the Board of Trustees for Joslin Diabetes Center, the world’s preeminent diabetes research, clinical care, and education organization. She was the 2011 National Chair of the JDRF’s Children’s Congress, served on the Advocacy Committee of the International Board, and is currently a member of the Greater New England Chapter Community Board.

Shaheen served on the Portsmouth New Hampshire City Council and as Chair of the Police Commission. New Hampshire Governor Lynch appointed her, and she became Chair of the State’s Commission on the Status of Women.

A graduate of MIT’s Sloan School of Management and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, Shaheen was also a Division I Scholarship Athlete. Shaheen and her husband live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire where they raised four children.

Ellen O’Donnell, Ph.D.

Psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Instructor at Harvard Medical School, Living with T1D since age 21

Ellen H. O’Donnell, Ph.D., is a pediatric psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children. She is Director of Psychological Services for the MGH Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Center and for Shriners Children’s Hospital, Boston. She co-directs the MassGeneral for Children Pediatric Behavioral Medicine Program and the MGH Internship in Child Psychology. She is an Assistant Professor in Psychology at Harvard Medical School.  Dr. O’Donnell’s interests include developing and evaluating interventions for children and adolescents affected by medical illness to improve quality of life and health outcomes. She is also interested in ways that positive parenting practices protect children against problems in adjustment. Dr. O’Donnell works with patients with a variety of pediatric illnesses but is especially interested in the challenges of having T1D since she is living with the disease herself.
