Cycling Coach…Like a Normal Coach but Cooler

Mike Schnakenberg with Pat Wright (2018 Ride Chair), just before setting out on their Amelia Island Ride

I am so excited to introduce the 2019 JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Coach, Mike Schnakenberg.  Five years ago, Mike started training for his first JDRF ride at the age of 58, with no prior experience other than recreational neighborhood cycling.  That year he rode in Lake Tahoe, and has since participated in the Burlington, Tucson, and Amelia Island rides.

Mike’s daughter Michelle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 9 years ago, at the age of 14.  He has served on the JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter Board for 8 years, and raised over $54,700 through his Ride program efforts alone.  Last year Mike, attended all of Team Houston’s training rides, pedaled over 100 miles in Amelia Island, and finished the entire coaching certification process in record time!

Mike is a fantastic coach and motivator.  Team Houston is excited to have him heading up our 2019 training schedule!  So whether you are a registered Ride to Cure Diabetes participant, considering registration, or just looking for a fun group of people to ride with, we would love to have you join us!  If you are interested in attending, or would like more information, please feel free to contact Mike at mschnak@aol.com
