Advocacy Update with Peggy Kruckemeyer

Congress included almost $12 million in funding for the Special Diabetes Program in the latest Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the government.  This patch through December 20 will allow critical research to continue moving us closer to cures for T1D.  We remain hopeful that the SDP will be fully funded when a full budget is passed.  The insulin pump, continuous glucose monitor and the artificial pancreas are some of the life-saving technologies that have come out of this program.

As we approach the election year of 2020, please participate in the process.  The entire House of Representatives is up for election as well as Sen. John Cornyn.  If your Representative holds an Open House or Meet the Candidate, please take the time to meet them and thank them for their support of the SDP  Our area Congressmen of both parties have been very supportive.  Rep. Pete Olson is retiring, so those of you in his district have a change to make a good first impression for JDRF on the new candidates.  Introduce yourself with a smile and let them know that their support of diabetes research is critical to your support.
