She [Nicole Michmerhuizen] has Type 1 diabetes, and running helps control her blood sugar. She spent two years of college researching the human genome, graduating with a 3.99 grade-point average in biochemistry and engineering. She is studying for a doctorate at the University of Michigan in pharmacology.
