Fund A Cure with the Iken Family

Fund A Cure.

For any JDRF gala, this part of the evening is one of the most impactful. Families share their stories of life with T1D and generous supporters, moved by these inspiring stories, give gifts that directly impact the vital mission of JDRF.

Many of us can relate to these stories – the shock of a new T1D diagnosis, finding a community and family through JDRF, and showing the world that T1D doesn’t stop you, it makes you unstoppable. For others, this may be the first time they learn about type 1 diabetes and the impact it can have on someone. These personal stories inspire and remind us all of our vision, a world without type 1 diabetes.

We’re thrilled to introduce you to our 2021 Dream Gala Fund A Cure Family, the Iken Family!

Michelle was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the age of 9. Originally from Kansas City, she now calls St. Louis home with her husband Corey and their two sons, Seth and Ryan. Since her diagnosis over 30 years ago, Michelle has seen the amazing advancements in T1D care and helped advocate for those changes along the way. These advancements became more important than even when, at the age of only 4 ½, youngest son Ryan, was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Together, the Ikens have learned to navigate life with T1D as a family. Their hope is that through their story, they can educate others about life with T1D and share the importance of funding T1D research. We invite you to share in their story at the 2021 Dream Gala on June 5 and bring us closer to cures, so that families, like the Ikens, can live in a world without type 1 diabetes.

We are so grateful for your support of JDRF and we want to share our gratitude at the Dream Gala! If you make your 100% tax-deductible Fund A Cure gift by this Friday, May 14th, you’ll receive special recognition during the Dream Gala program on Saturday, June 5.
