JDRF One Walk is Back in Person!

in

The summer is heating up and so is One Walk! Now is the perfect time to be a part of this incredible event. One Walk is the nation’s largest and most powerful T1D event. It’s a day that symbolizes the power of our community and the dedication we all share for creating a world without type 1 diabetes. One Walk is a day to see our community in action and to meet others who understand the journey that is life with T1D. One Walk is a day where CGMs and insulin pumps are worn proudly, showing the strength of our T1D champions.

This fall we have THREE One Walks in our chapter:

Saturday, September 24Wichita Community One Walk

Saturday, October 1: Kansas City One Walk

Sunday, October 16St. Louis One Walk

One Walk Youth Ambassadors!

We’re looking for some incredible kids and teens in our chapter to make an incredible impact on One Walk! Our Youth Ambassadors play an integral role and provide leadership experience for kids and teens.

Youth Ambassadors support One Walk by:

  • Creating a team and committing to raising $1,000 to support T1D research
  • Sharing their story with corporate partners to inspire their teams
  • Cheering on and thanking our sponsors for their generous support
  • Shining on Walk Day from the stage to celebrate an amazing walk season
  • And more!

To learn more about this incredible opportunity and apply, check out the links below. Applications are open until Friday, June 17 and a volunteer committee will review all applications.

June Updates

So far, we’ve had over 70 teams register across the chapter and already raised nearly $60,000 in just a few short weeks! Thank you to everyone who has registered. Now is the perfect time to join in the fun.

Summer Heat and T1D

It’s estimated that people with T1D make 180 decisions a day related to health alone and summer brings a whole new set of decisions between increased activity, heat, and summer traveling. June is the perfect time to share your T1D journey and what a summer day with type 1 diabetes looks like. Be sure to stay safe too with our T1D Guide to Summer.

*Fundraising Tip: Use unique summer numbers like the high heats or 93 degrees (the highest heat insulin can tolerate before proteins break down quickly) as challenges for your supporters to support your fundraising goals with a mission focused number!

Happy Birthday Rufus

June 19 is Rufus’ birthday! Rufus, the Bear with Diabetes, is a special part of our community. When a child is first diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, it can be an incredibly scary experience. Rufus is a source of comfort and connection in those first days. Rufus allows children to explore T1D and pretend-play life with type 1 diabetes to empower them in managing their own T1D. Celebrate Rufus’ birthday by sharing a photo of your T1D champion with Rufus and the impact he has made on their life.

*Fundraising Tip: Encourage your supporters to donate in honor of Rufus’ birthday! See how many donations you can get on Sunday to celebrate. Rufus is turning 26 this year, which is a great number to encourage donors to match.
