One Walk Spotlight – Olivia Takes over JDRF Instagram

in ,

We hope you enjoyed our Instagram Takeover with Olivia this week! Here’s a glance of what we learned with Olivia through this week’s #TakeoverTuesday

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on October 17, 2005 at 10 years old and found JDRF two years after my diagnosis. Gaining the support of other T1D families and friends my age that understood what I was going through gave me the courage to start living my life more fully. Since then, I’ve done just about every sport there is, traveled the world, graduated from college, and am now a Doctor of Physical Therapy student. JDRF has given me hope through research on new management technologies that allow me to focus less on type 1 diabetes, and more on achieving my goals.

I have been the captain of Olivia’s Dream Team since 2015. Every year I look forward to fundraising for my One Walk team and getting to share my story with family and friends. I walk because I want to be in charge of my life, rather than letting diabetes dictate my decisions, and I know JDRF is working hard every day to help me do that. JDRF has advocates to push diabetes legislation through at the highest levels of government, funds massive human research trials, and provides a supportive community for those affected by T1D. Their mission to cure, prevent, and treat type 1 diabetes gives me hope for a future without T1D for all of us, because no one should have to battle this disease.”

Our national One Walk Day on November 1st is getting closer and we want to help everyone achieve their goals, so we have a NEW TEAM CHALLENGE! Now through October 25, every team that Strives for Five and completes the following 5 steps will be entered into a drawing to have their own Instagram Takeover during National Diabetes Awareness Month this November!

  • Have at least 10 registered team members.
  • Raise at least $1,000 as a team.
  • Walk at least 50 miles as a team.
  • Make a personal donation [of any amount].
  • Link your fundraising page to your Facebook.
