WALK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

The JDRF One Walk team is looking to make the 2016 Walk season even better and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Each spring the Chapter hosts three Walks in Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC.

**We need registration and activities booth volunteers,Ā walk route volunteers, set-up and clean-up, etc! We are looking for 50+ interested volunteers to help out on our Walk days:

    **These are all active events at which volunteers may be required to stand for a number of hours and lift boxes and supplies weighing up to thirty pounds.

ARE YOU A COLLEGE STUDENT LOOKING FOR AN INTERNSHIP?

Our Linthicum, MD officeĀ is looking to fill theĀ intern position for the 2016 spring semester! All interested applicants can send their resumes and cover letters to Kristen Van Meter at kvanmeter@jdrf.org.

We accept college interns for spring, summer, and fall semesters in our offices in Washington, DC and Linthicum, MD.

Qualified Applicants
Applicants should have superior organizational and time management skills, excel at working independently and seek to grow as professionals. Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and comfort in a fast-paced environment are essential. Applicants must be able to work as a team, and must demonstrate leadership qualities and a willingness to learn. Prior non-profit experience is preferred.

How will a Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter intern contribute to the mission of JDRF?
JDRF Chapter interns will be exposed to a wide variety of development practices and have a varied work experience. In concert with the needs of the chapter, our program allows students to choose a facet of the organization that interests them and learn through hands-on experience. It is intended to provide knowledge, skills, and experience that each intern can apply to future challenges and professional pursuits. Interns will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in a key project that may include:

  • Support logistical and recruitment planning for any or all our local, major events this Spring 2016: TypeOneNation DC Research Summit; JDRF One Walks in Baltimore, Leesburg, and Washington, DC; JDRF Real Estate Games; and JDRF Golf Classic
  • AssistĀ and help coordinate JDRF Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes presentations and programs at local elementary, middle and high schools
  • Support volunteer recruitment strategy and training program to support chapter initiatives
  • Plan and implement strategy and improvements to the chapter social media to effectively communicate JDRFā€™s message and provide clear opportunities for donor engagement

Your application should explain your interest in JDRF and its mission. Please highlight any extracurricular activities you participate in and the dates of your availability. Your cover letter should explain the skills, experience, and interests that qualify you for the internship.

Interns are expected to work 15-20 hours per week, with dates and times flexible. Internships are unpaid, but could receive academic credit or work study for their work with JDRF. Please ask your home institution for more information on academic credit approval and policy.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:

Corporate Committee
The chapterā€™s Corporate Committee is focused on identifying, developing and stewarding our corporate partners across all events and programs. Committee volunteers play a vital role in helping the chapter expand our network by reaching out to his/her personal and professional contacts and engaging them in our mission to turn Type One into Type None. This committee meets monthly by conference call, with 2-3 in-person meetings per year and is perfect for volunteers who enjoy sales and networking.


Stewardship
Join our Stewardship Committee and have a chance to thank our partners and sponsors for supporting JDRF.Ā This is great for volunteering with your family or kids, on your own time, and in your own neighborhood. This puts a ā€œfaceā€ and story to JDRF and that will encourage the employees to be more engaged in the fundraising program.

Share your story and bring awareness to the community about type 1 diabetes and JDRFā€™s investments in research. Members of the JDRF family are needed to attend and speak at health fairs, government agencies, companies, and third-party events. JDRF Staff will train and help you meld your story/experience with JDRFā€™s mission and vision to turn type one into type none!

*This program involves further training and an interview process.


Advocacy
Sign up as an Advocate, you will receive emails on different ways you can let Congress know how important treating, curing and preventing T1D is to you!Ā You can get involved from right where you are! JDRF Advocacy provides a unique opportunity for you to help JDRF take one step closer to treating, curing and preventing type 1 diabetes (T1D).Ā View more ways to get involved in advocacy here!


Communications Committee
The chapterā€™sĀ Communications Committee works in partnership with staff and committee members to develop a Media plan that incorporates strategies for all events/programs with regard to event promotion. Members work to develop relationships with various local media outlets, as well as work to create press releases and media advisories. This committee meets monthly by conference call, with 2-3 in-person meetings per year and is perfect for volunteers with professional interest and experience in communications, marketing and public relations.


Outreach Programs & Events:
Outreach is a critical program at JDRF, helping to connect newly diagnosed individuals and families with support and information on life with T1D. From the TypeOneNation Summit, Online Diabetes Support Team to family mentoring programs and community health fairs, outreach volunteers share both information and hope in our local communities.


Gala Auction Committee
For a behind the scenes look at JDRFā€™s annual galas, join the Gala Auction committees in either DC or Maryland and help make this yearā€™s Galas (2016 dates TBD) more successful than ever. As a committee members, you would help think of, find, and procure new and fun ideas to intrigue our guests and thank them for their support of T1D research.

Interested in helping at one of our offices? Our chapter welcomes office volunteers with skills in data entry, organization, graphic design, writing/editing, mailings and the million and one tasks it takes to fundĀ T1D research.
