Local McLean Teen Uses Yoga to Fight T1D

When Hudson Halling went for his a check-up at five-years-old, his pediatrician shared the news that rocked his family’s world: a routine test showed Hudson had type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Now 16-years-old, the Dunn Loring resident is a junior at Marshall High School. He works out, plays baseball and basketball, and is “determined that T1D will not slow me down or hold me back.”

Hudson currently serves as a JDRF Youth Ambassador, where he sees his role as two-fold: first, to show people that the opportunities with T1D are limitless; and second, to advocate for funding to turn Type One into Type None.

Hudson’s enthusiasm and drive were noticed by Geoff Robison and Tim Carroll of Custom Kinetics, a personal training facility in McLean, Va. where Hudson and his mother, Beth Halling, have trained. On Saturday, November 18, Custom Kinetics will host a Yoga Fundraiser to benefit JDRF.

According to Geoff and Tim, “We have always been impressed with how Hudson handles the daily responsibilities of managing T1D. The Yoga Fundraiser is a great opportunity to give back to the community as we want to support issues that are important to our Custom Kinetics family.”

“Our family got involved with JDRF 11 years ago,” said Beth. “JDRF is not only a great source of information and support for families but also invaluable for its focus on research. Hudson and I hope to see members of the JDRF family on November 18 for an afternoon of yoga in support of this incredible organization.”
