New Community Leaders Join JDRF Capital Chapter Board
in Leadership
JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, is proud to announce the appointment of Aman Vij and Lauren Rapaport as JDRF Capital Chapter board members as we enter our new fiscal year. Board members provide volunteer guidance to the chapter and the local T1D community, playing a vital role in executing fundraising, leadership and advocacy activities to benefit local families and the 1.25 million Americans who live with this autoimmune disease.
āWe want to thank Aman and Lauren for their dedication to supporting JDRF and are delighted to welcome them to our board,ā said JDRF Capital Chapter Executive Director Jaclyn Toll Basse. āWeāre confident that their leadership skills will provide the strengths needed to help advance JDRFās goals of improving the lives of families and individuals living with type 1 diabetes as we strive to unlock the science for a cure.ā
Aman Vij has over 23 years of consulting experience and is a Technology Principal serving clients across the Government and Public Services (GPS) practice at Deloitte. āAs someone who was diagnosed with T1D over 10 years ago, I deeply appreciate the daily obstacles those who have this disease are tasked with,ā said Vij. āI am pleased to join JDRF in my passion to help all of those affected and finding a cure.ā
Lauren Rapaport, a senior manager with CoStar Group, was diagnosed with T1D in 1979 and has been involved with JDRF for almost 39 years. This will be her second tour on the Capital Chapter Board, previously serving from 2012-2016. “JDRF has been my family and my community for almost my entire life. I’m excited and honored to be a part of the board again. I’ve seen so many technological advancements in my lifetime, I feel like a walking example of how the money raised by JDRF truly makes a significant impact to the millions of others living with T1D. I’m so thankful for JDRF and I can’t wait to get started!” said Rapaport.
T1D can strike both children and adults at any age. About 40,000 people are diagnosed each year in the U.S. T1D comes on suddenly, causes dependence on injected or pumped insulin for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications such as kidney, nerve or eye disease. JDRF is committed to advancing life-changing breakthroughs from development to the marketplace and into the hands of people with T1D. The staff and volunteers of the JDRF Capital Chapter are looking forward to a successful year of making those advancements possible. The Capital Chapter Board of Directors for the 2019-2020 fiscal year will be led by Board President Brett Fine, President-Elect Chris Kelly and Nominating & Board Development Chair Kim Tilley.Ā A list of our full Board of Directors is below.
