The 20th Anniversary Hope Gala in D.C.

Held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 7 o’clock in the evening, the reimagined event will bring hundreds of dedicated members of the T1D community together virtually and will honor JDRF’s 50th Anniversary by celebrating the Power of Us.

JDRF was founded 50 years ago by T1D moms and we are excited to have five incredible T1D moms co-chairing this year’s Hope Gala – Liz Legg, Mimi Schwartz, Caroline Springer, Susan Traver, and Michelle Whitaker.

This year’s Hope Gala Honoree, Emily Spitzer, is also a T1D mom and she first became involved with JDRF in 1989 when her daughter Rebecca was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 9 months. Immediately following the diagnosis, Emily immersed herself both with the local chapter and JDRF International. She has served in numerous leadership roles, including being Chair of Research for the JDRF International Board of Directors. In this role, she was responsible for one of the most significant contributions to the T1D community, the hiring of JDRF’s first internal scientist.

The evening will also recognize Rapaport Lifetime Service Awardees, Larry Soler & Family, and all the high school students participating in the JDRF Champions Campaign.

Hosted by Leon Harris and Laura Evans Manatos, this year’s reimagined Hope Gala has a goal of raising $1.3 million dollars in support of life changing T1D research. The event will feature silent and live auctions, Fund A Cure, catering delivered directly to guests’ homes from Susan Gage Catering, and more.

We are looking forward to what promises to be a memorable evening celebrating our 20th Anniversary and the progress of research over the last 50 years on December 5th and we hope that you will join us. Together, through the Power of Us, we can continue to change the world for everyone living with T1D.
