The Whitlock family has been doing their Christmas Lights display at their home on River Road in Richmond, VA for over 20 years. What started as a simple project to give the yardman work for Christmas has grown into a drive-thru display very popular on the “Tacky Light” tour featuring over 250,000 lights with a life-sized nativity, winter wonderlands, a gingerbread playground, 12 Days of Christmas, blow-ups, farm animals and wildlife, water scenes, snow fights, snowmen, bears, penguins, a birthday cake and of course, Santa, his reindeer and elves.

The Whitlock’s youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 at age 14. She is married now and her husband also has T1D. In 2013, they started a text to donate and a secure cash collection box to collect donations for JDRF at the end of the drive through the lights. Since then they have collected over $30,000 for JDRF and hope to reach another $5,000 this year. Click for more information.
