Participating in a clinical trial helps research for type 1 diabetes (T1D) move forward and become an approved and available treatment for those with T1D. This is also what we work so hard for with our fundraising, to fund research and clinical trials. New for the Minnesota and Dakotas JDRF chapter this month is a link that will provide a continually updated table that will show the clinical trials that are currently enrolling in our area. These trials will be updated as their status changes and new trials will also be added as they begin to enroll. During this time of COVid, some trials are currently on hold and not currently enrolling. There are still many trials that are currently open for enrollment. This will be a good place to look for trials that are open in our area. The clinicaltrials.gov site does have a lag time for information. Our JDRF chapter table showing clinical trials in our area will be more up to date and will use information from this site that we will have the status verified by local study coordinators.

The table will have studies characterized by the type of study, such as drug or device. You will be able to find the age requirements, location and study contact information. The link for each study is also available to give you more detail on each study. As you look at a study, if you would like to know more about a study, please contact the study coordinator listed. This is the best way to learn more about the study and have your questions answered. This simple step and first conversation does not mean that you are ready to sign up for the study. You are always welcome to contact a study and get more information about a study with no strings attached. Please note that studies for the newly diagnosed do have a critical enrollment period often within several weeks of diagnosis. In these cases it is critical to have that beginning discussion with a study coordinator shortly after diagnosis.

The studies currently on this clinical trials table are ones that are also accessible through the clinicaltrials.gov website. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact Debbie Evans at 612-810-1933 or at debbieaevans1@gmail.com.
