Volunteers of the Month – Steve and Lisa Kordonowy

in ,

The Nevada Chapter Volunteer of the Month program is sponsored by our community partners at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. Each month we highlight one of our fabulous chapter volunteers and that volunteer receives gift cards for free meals from Raising Cane’s.

We are pleased to announce our Raising Canes Volunteers of the Month for August are Steve and Lisa Kordonowy from Northern Nevada.

Steve and Lisa have been involved with JDRF since their son Lucas was diagnosed with type 1 in 2012, at the age of 3. Lucas also has two cousins with type 1, Mason and Ryan. The Kordonowy family is actively involved with all JDRF events. Each fall since 2012 the Kordonowy Cousins for a Cure Team has joined the rest of the T1D community at the University of Nevada, Reno for the JDRF One Walk. The Kordonowys are consistently one of Northern Nevada’s top fundraising teams, and are currently the #3 fundraising team overall and the #2 family fundraising team for the walk on September 23rd.

Because Steve and Lisa know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to adapt to the daily demands of managing T1D—they wanted to help others in similar situations. They immediately became Outreach Volunteers and are part of a team of people who reach out to families and deliver the JDRF Bags of Hope throughout Northern Nevada. The Bag of Hope program delivers a backpack filled with information and resources to families newly diagnosed with diabetes, and helps connect them with the type 1 diabetes community.

Thank you to Steve and Lisa for all you do for JDRF and families living with type 1 diabetes.
