Meet Our Fund a Cure Family!

We are excited to announce that the Singh-Sehgal family will be spotlighted during the Fund a Cure portion of the 2022 One Dream Gala, being held Saturday, May 14 at Bell Works in Holmdel.

Fourteen year old Bela Singh-Sehgal was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in February 2020, amid the global pandemic and during the last formative months of 8th grade. As with many T1D families, the diagnosis came as a shock.

Struggling with feelings of uncertainty and isolation, especially when it came to navigating T1D during COVID, as well as around food and nutrition, they reached out to JDRF for help and were connected with two other Indian families in NJ, with whom they have grown very close.

Believing in the power of research ā€“ and in JDRFā€™s mission to end type 1 diabetes for millions of children and adults living with this disease – Bela entered a double-blind clinical trial less than 3 weeks after diagnosis. This week, she is back at CHOP for 12 days participating in Phase 2 of the trial. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates!

Support Bela and Fund A Cure

From the stage on May 14, Bela will bravely share her story with hundreds of guests at JDRFā€™s One Dream Gala during Fund A Cureā€”a poignant moment of the evening where attendees have a unique opportunity to make a 100% tax-deductible donation towards the research that JDRF supports to cure, better treat and prevent T1D. Whether or not you are able to join us on May 14, you can still contribute to our efforts by making a Fund A Cure donation today.

This year, we are thrilled to announce that through the incredible generosity of a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, every dollar raised prior to the night of the Gala will be MATCHED up to $50,000. The donor asks that we utilize their incredibly impactful gift as a way to inspire others to give generously to Fund A Cure. Please visit Bela’s Fund a Cure page to make a donation today.

Because of your past support, JDRF is currently funding more than 75 human clinical trials in innovative T1D research, moving us closer to our vision of a world without type 1 diabetes!
